                            An Easy Way to Help
When you buy shopping/gift cards through St. John's, you are making a contribution that does not cost you financially. It may take a little planning.  Order forms are available in the narthex and can be placed in the lockbox at any time.

To make it easy, here's the form for ordering. Print it and bring it on Sunday.

And if you want more choices, here's a complete list. Sue Bremer could order anything on this list.

We can park on both sides by the green.Past that the street narrows. There is only room for parking on one side of the street.

Parking by the post office on Sundays should present no problems.

Would you like to know more? About what?

Many years about this time, I think about having some sort of study group during Lent. We've had classes about various topics and at various times. If success is measured by attendance, the record is definitely spotty. The tendency has been for attendance to fall off greatly within about three sessions.

If there is sufficient interest, I'd like to try something different this year, at least as to time and location. We now have two classrooms in the addition which we could use between the two services on Sunday morning. That would make the class relatively accessible for people who attend both services. It would also mean that classes will be limited to about 45 minutes.

I've been looking into some possible resources for a study. My thought is to discuss a book that is fairly accessible. Marcus Borg has written a number of books that try to address modern thoughts about faith in understandable ways. Some of his books consider how we think and talk about our faith in today's world.

If this or another theme is of interest to you, and if you would be willing to commit to attend a class most of the Sundays in March, let me know, either in person or by email. If several people are willing to make the commitment, we'll study together.

                            See you Sunday.

Presentation of 13-Year Olds - This Sunday
Every year on the first Sunday in February, we honor those young people who have turned 13 in the last year (through Feb. 1). Whether or not these young people decide to be confirmed in the next year or two, all of them are growing up.This service acknowledges that  their ministry among us is changing. It is also a way of thanking their parents for encouraging them in their faith journey. At baptism we promised to do everything in our power to support the candidates in their life in Christ. Being present to honor this milestone in our teens' lives is one means of fulfilling that promise.
                            Tuesday Eucharist @ 11 a.m.
                            January 31, Feb. 7
We will have a eucharist at 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday morning during the Month of January (weather permitting).  After the service there will be coffee. If you have time, bring a sandwich and join us for lunch and conversation. We will have a service on the first Tuesday in February that includes soup to share along with the conversation. Stay tuned for plans after that.

Note: There will also be a eucharist, but no food, on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. Both services are subject to weather conditions: no school - no service.

                            Fill the Sock Box
The Sock Box in the narthex is for socks, underwear, toiletries, etc., to distribute to homeless people (mostly men) in Hartford. A group of kids and adults from St. John's will be going to Christ Church Cathedral in Hartford on March 4, and we'd like to take lots of socks. So bring in your socks and fill the box, more than once!

P.S. If you or your kids plan to attend, please call or email the office, so we'll know how much transportation we'll need. We'll leave St. John's about 9 a.m.

                            Flower Chart for 2012
