The point of it all.... |
|
Several years ago the Vestry articulated what they believed to be the core values of St. John’s. These values were considered and reaffirmed during the strategic planning process of 2004. As we wrestle with making the best decision for St. John’s future (as well as considering our financial commitment for the coming year), it is worth reminding ourselves of those values: W St. John’s is a community which offers support to one another with honesty and humor. We are friendly but not pushy. W All persons who come to St. John’s are honored for their gifts, for their time, and for their presence W St John’s is concerned with ministry for future generations and welcomes all children as “angels and archangels.” W The community of St. John’s honors beautiful worship in a beautiful building and setting. We find beauty in liturgy that is orderly and inviting for all persons. We try to make decisions and to act in ways that affirm these values. At times one value may seem to be in conflict with another, and we have to rely on God’s grace to help us balance them in the best way we are able to fulfill the mission we have been given. Our mission, or core purpose, is really the point of all we do as a parish. You can read it every month at the top of this page, but to be sure you don’t miss it as you consider your part in the mission of this parish in the days and years ahead: St. John’s purpose is to experience and share with others the good news of faith in Jesus Christ, because we believe Jesus Christ makes lives new. And just as we believe that Jesus Christ makes individual lives new, we also believe that he can work through us to make the life and ministry of St. John’s new and inviting for our generation and for generations to come.
Blessings and
Peace,
