Our Search for a New Rector
St. John's has performed a financial analysis with the help of the Diocese. It was determined that we can pursue a 3/4 time minister.
On March 8th we had a meeting with Amber Page Gehr, the administrator for transition. Only Vestry members are allowed to participate in the interviewing and selection of our next Priest In Charge (PIC). This means that is is very important that parishioners provide input into the posting that goes out.
Amber will be be meeting with us Sunday, March 26th after the 9:00am service to discuss the next steps and answer any questions we have. Here are the next steps that she outlined for us at our meeting on the 8th.

- Provide information for the position to be advertised on the Office of Transition Ministry (OTM) website. This is an Episcopal Church-wide clearinghouse, used by clergy seeking new positions.
- The parish website must be up to date and “attractive.” The website is the main vehicle for presenting the parish to the candidates.
- Using social media outlets, advertise the position and encourage all parishioners to do the same.
- Complete interview training, including anti-bias training per Convention resolution.
- Interview candidates initially by video conference call.
- When appropriate, bring candidates and their spouses to visit the parish for an interview, covering all expenses.
- Coordinate with the bishop’s office to make sure any candidate that comes for an in-person interview meet with the bishop of record for this transition (Bishop Ahrens).
- Be prepared to share financial information and other information gathered from the parish with the candidates.
- Do reference checks.
- Ask the candidate of choice if they have discerned that they would like to move forward with the parish.
- Request in writing to the bishop that the candidate be appointed. If the candidate appointed relocates, St. John’s is responsible for paying moving expenses.
- Work with the PIC over the three years to prepare for entering into a tenured relationship.
